Why we built it
Like most people, we relied on free online tools to merge a PDF, shrink an image, or convert a file. And like most people, we eventually stopped to ask an uncomfortable question: where exactly are these files going? Most online tools work by uploading your document to a server you cannot see, processing it there, and sending it back. For a meme, that is fine. For a signed contract, a bank statement, or a scan of your passport, it means handing a private document to a stranger's computer and trusting that it is deleted, never logged, and never breached.
We did not love that trade-off, so we built the alternative. Modern browsers are powerful enough to do this work themselves — no server required. DocuFixer uses that power to process your files locally, on the very device you are already holding. The result is a toolkit you can trust with the documents that actually matter.
Privacy is not a feature, it is the foundation
Every tool runs entirely inside your browser. Your files are opened, processed, and saved on your own device. There is no upload, no server copy, and nothing for us to see, store, or sell.
Fast because nothing travels
Because your files never make a round trip to a server, there is no waiting to upload or download. Processing starts the moment you drop a file in and finishes as fast as your device can work.
Free, with no dark patterns
No forced signups, no watermarks stamped on your documents, no “upgrade to download” walls. The tools are free to use as often as you like.
How the tools actually work
When you open a tool and drop in a file, the processing code runs inside your browser tab using technologies like WebAssembly and the browser's built-in file APIs. Your file is read into your device's memory, transformed there, and offered back to you as a download. At no point is it transmitted over the internet. You can even disconnect from your network after a tool loads and it will keep working — a simple test that proves nothing is being uploaded.
If you would like to understand the difference in more depth, we wrote about it in why browser-based file tools are safer than cloud converters.
What you can do here
DocuFixer covers the everyday document jobs in one place: merging, splitting, compressing, rotating, and editing PDFs; compressing, resizing, cropping, and converting images; plus a growing set of text and data utilities like a word counter, JSON formatter, and QR code generator. We also publish practical guides and tutorials to help you get the most out of your files — from shrinking a stubborn PDF to choosing the right image format.
How we keep it free
DocuFixer is free to use, with no premium tier and no subscription. To cover hosting and keep building new tools, we show non-intrusive advertising on the site. Crucially, the ads never change how the tools work: your files are still processed entirely in your browser and are never uploaded, with or without ads on the page.
Get in touch
We genuinely read feedback, and a lot of our tools exist because someone asked for them. If you have found a bug, want a new tool, or just have a question, head over to our contact page — we would love to hear from you.
